70cm X 100cm, New, etching/carborundum, landscape, 2019
Middle Kingdom, Zhōngguó, Huaxia and Tang, some of the many names for China, each representing a different concept of the civilisation state. In what way do we need to take stock of the rapid growth and change in the modern world. The tightly packed rendering of bamboo in this etching and carborundum print represents the immenseness and impenetrability in understanding the machinations of big-politics power plays and the clashes of cultures involved. An oriental “seeing the wood for the trees” so to speak.
